Alan Borg was born in Adelaide, South Australia in 1977. Currently residing on the Yorke Peninsula, Alan has had the privilege to be surrounded by some of Australia’s most beautiful and pristine coastline. Since childhood Alan has always had a deep connection with the ocean, spending countless hours snorkeling, diving and searching for tiny critters in the tidal rock pools. Winter storms saw Alan and his mother beachcombing for shells along seaweed strewn beaches searching for ocean treasures.
Alans earlier career consisted of working in an aerospace company as a toolmaker and machinist. However, the ocean beckoned, and every weekend was spent in the Kombi van by the beach. In 2003 Alan moved to Yorke Peninsula to find his passion and start a family. The following decade Alan found work in stone masonry, carpentry, statue making and off grid living. Along with the building of his own home it seemed all the skills formed in earlier life came to fruition in a new passion for driftwood sculpture.
Inspired by coastal themes his art took on a strong environmental focus. Intention to bring environmental awareness through sustainable art into homes and the corporate world became a reality as his work captivated art lovers worldwide. Combining driftwood, sea glass and beach found plastics brings an emotional connection of the sea to life. Alan collects his materials Australia wide with a passion to beachcomb, he enjoys the challenges faced accessing Australia’s more remote and barely accessible beaches. Now working as a full time multi award winning artist Alan is deeply grateful to have found his calling and to be able to share his art, bringing joy to others.
