Sustainable Driftwood Sculpture Artist

Alan Borg

Driftwood Sculpture Artist

The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever.”

- Jacques Cousteau

Growing up on South Australia’s beautiful Yorke Peninsula coast, Alan Borg has nurtured a lifelong passion for the ocean and the remarkable creatures it sustains. He enjoyed years of beachcombing along its sandy shores in search of washed-up treasures. This obsession ultimately led him to become a driftwood sculpture artist.

“Through an evolving process, my work seeks to capture the essence of nature and coastal life using beach-found treasures. Each piece of driftwood I collect has an unknown history. The wood may be part of a tree taken from the waters edge at high tide or perhaps the scattered remains of a shipwreck lost at sea.”

Alan works with a variety of materials, including discarded fishing rope, sea glass, and shells. The rustic charm of driftwood, however, makes it his primary medium of choice. Alan meticulously assembles his work like a puzzle, with minimal manipulation of the material. His passion is to represent nature through natural elements and to see each subject come alive.
